Born in Seattle, Washington, Robert is a graduate of the University of Washington with a BA in Business Administration. He first came to the Big Island in the mid 70’s and immediately fell in love with the beauty of the island and it’s people.
He began a nursery and landscaping business, that took his talents to many of the islands in the Hawaiian chain. An entrepreneur in his own right, he started one of the first palm nurseries on the island and served as an active member of the International Palm Society. This is a love that sticks with him today, and although he claims his Latin isn’t quite as sharp as it used to be, he could stil dazzle the average guy with the botanical names of most palms on the island.
In 1981 he developed an interest in real estate. Robert was top sales agent before starting Orchid Isle Properties in 1988. He quickly rose to the position of a top producer in all of East Hawaii and his firm has consistently ranked asone of the top producing companies in East Hawaii. Despite his modesty about his achievements, C. Brewer & Company, Ltd. (Hawaii’s oldest corporations) saw in him the experience, commitment and integrity they needed to market their lands. They contracted him as their exclusive listing broker from 1993 through 2002 when they liquidated.
Robert’s accomplishments are lengthy, he served on the Governor of Hawaii’s Economic Revitalization Task Force, has been the recipient of Prudential’s coveted Chairman’s Circle 8 times, placing him in the top 1% of Prudential’s 50,000 agents. In 2001 he was honored with Prudential Real Estate Affiliates “Legend Award”. That same year he won the “Cornerstone Award” for Operational Excellence. Again in 2004 he earned the "Core Values Award". He is also a 3 time winner of the Ho’oula Award (Hawaii’s Fastest fifty growing companies). Robert also captured the Roundtable Award in 2005, having lead the company to rank as one of the top 3 companies in the entire Western Region, thecompetition was comprised of 445 PREA offices and based on the number of transactions closed for the year. Additionally to his credit, he was President of the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors in 1993 (HIBR), Realtor of the Year in 1994, a Director of HIBR for six years and a Trustee of RPAC for four years. Most recently, he has lead the company to be ranked as "The Number One Real Estate Company" in East Hawaii for 2008, from Honoka`a to Volcano, Prudential Orchid Isle Properties had the highest total sales volume according to the Hawaii Information Service (our mls). Currently he is serving on the Government Affairs Commitee for the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors.
He is an active community member and most recently served as President of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce 2007/2008. He is also a member of both the Japanese and Portuguese Chambers of Commerce. Robert is actively involved in development and has a number of successful projects under his belt. He resides with his wife, Syleste, along the Hamakua Coast and spends much of his free time landscaping his own 4.5 acres. He is also an avid golfer and he says he enjoys the beauty of Hawaii’s courses as much as the game itself. In his true humble style, when asked to what he contributes his success, he will tell you that it is his “top-notch sales agents, desirable inventory and a good support team”. Robert has proven repeatedly that his word is as good as gold, someone you can trust with a handshake.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Pasadena California, home of the Tournament of Roses and the Rose Bowl. Meg graduated from Pasadena High School, where high school football games and High School graduations took place in the Rose Bowl.
Meg graduated from UC San Diego in La Jolla California with a B.A.degree in Philosophy and an emphasis in Mathematics. Then she decided to find some marketable skills and attended and graduated from the Institute for Paralegal Training in Philadelphia PA less than a year later.
Meg spent the next three years living in Vermont working as a paralegal with several outstanding attorneys, including the subsequent Chief Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. Many days were spent at dozens of county seats researching title records. Unlike Hawaii with one recording office in the entire state, Vermont land transactions were recorded in each County and attorneys handled all closings, with paralegals or rookie attorneys providing the legal descriptions.
After three years in Vermont, she got really COLD and extended her Christmas trip to California by going to Hawaii to visit an old friend, Bob, who was living and working in Honolulu. Bob and Meg had known each other all their lives, their families were close friends. She then moved to Honolulu 4 months later in April 1977, and they married in 1978.
Working again as a paralegal in Honolulu, Meg specialized in real estate and litigation. As so much of the work had the emphasis in real estate, she went ahead and got a real estate license, and continued working as a paralegal with an inactive license.
In 1983 she and her husband moved to Southern California because of a work promotion, they stayed there for the next 10 years. Working with two very successful mortgage bankers in Orange County, Meg was the Closing and Loan Servicing coordinator for one and worked in Underwriting Quality Control for the second much larger firm. In 1994 Meg moved to Hilo with her husband taking a job at W.H. Shipman. She went to work in the public school system in elementary and high school special education classes.
In 1999 Meg took a part time role with C. Brewer to work with their real estate division. Her primary function was to update and organize title information for all the land owned by CBL and it’s subsidiaries. Much of it had never been searched and many titles were broken. Working with a Honolulu attorney and Title Guarantee’s long search division to clear titles. She developed an inventory of insurable lands for the company to sell.
In 2003 Meg reactivated her real estate license. Three years later in 2006, she sat for her broker’s license and had been the Broker-In-Charge and Principal Broker for a Hilo real estate company until joining Prudential Orchid Isle Properties in January 2009.
Meg’s goal is to help clients understand the real estate landscape so well that they feel confident in making their decisions, whether buying or selling. She loves working with buyers, because she loves to listen and shop to find great deals! Meg is equally comfortable working with sellers as she brings a maturity to the relationship and can enable clients to trust and respect her advice, opinions and work ethic.
Meg finds the independence and self motivation requirements of real estate deeply satisfying. Every time she can put people together with the right property, the matchmaking process, and work through the details to a successful closing, she finds renewed energy.
For fun, her passion is playing tennis. She started playing when her daughter went to pre-school, close to 20 years ago. Today Meg plays recreationally at least 3 times a week (weather permitting) and on several USTA leagues. She served as captain of the Hilo Yacht Club Women’s 4.0 and Senior Women’s 4.0 teams for several years and sits on the HYC Athletics Committee as the tennis chair.
Meg also loves to twitter around in the garden and spend far too many hours on video games. Her son has an even greater addiction to games and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree at SMU in Interactive Technology – video game design. Her daughter is a student at HCC in the Culinary Arts program and lives at home. Her husband, Bob works for CSV Hospitality, based in San Francisco which builds, owns and manages hotel properties throughout the US.
With Meg’s background, experience and graceful approach to life, we could not be more pleased to have her onboard. You will find that Meg certainly does live up to Prudential Real Estates criteria of “professionals you can count on”.

Even when Donna Duryea was living and loving life on the mainland, she would often think about the islands that she, as a kama`aina, feels blessed to have been born and raised upon. She would sense Hawaii’s soft rains on her face, its smooth sands against her fingers, and its cool waters over her skin. She believes that, while she was away, the islands were constantly calling her – they were reminding her of how they had shaped her personality with their warmth, vitality, life, and vibrant colors. When Donna decided to finally move back to Hawaii, she knew it was because her soul needed to go home.
Cosmic Connection
Donna is grateful to be a part of the Polynesian culture – she loves how the people of Hawaii open their arms to others in a nurturing and protective manner. She is also deeply rooted in Hawaii’s alluring music and dance, as these art forms exemplify the Hawaiian spirit. After Donna received her bachelor’s degree in theatre from the University of Colorado, she used the Polynesian philosophy of warmth and acceptance to make lasting friendships during a once-in-a-lifetime trip around the world. Today, Donna remains faithful to Hawaii’s spirit and welcomes and cares for all the people around her, as if they were members of her home. In fact, she and her family often participate in foreign exchange programs – the latest students were from Kazakhstan and Vietnam. And when Donna sings in her band, which includes her brother on guitar and her son on drums, she taps into Hawaii’s spirit and gives the performance her all. But more importantly, Donna’s friends know that if they ever need anything, they can turn to her for comfort and help. That is, they know that Donna was nourished by Hawaii – that her warmth and love of life derives from the vitality that the islands are so famous for.
Deep in Her Soul
It’s clear that Hawaii’s essence runs through Donna’s bones and that she holds the unique lifestyle dear. A native Californian born in North Hollywood, Syleste always knew that Hawaii was her true home. Her aunt established residence in the islands in the 1930's and the connection was always in her heart. Of her first visit to the islands in the 1960's, she said "I remember distinctly stepping off the plane and that first breath of the air, I felt Iike I had come home".
While in high school in Southern California, she ventured into a modeling career and eventually became involved in the film and television industry. She quit her profession when she married a member of the then popular singing group "The Association". She spent several years touring with the band and enjoying the many beautiful towns and cities across the nation.
After her daughter was born, she worked part-time in feature film promotions. As her daughter grew older she wanted to work from home and began her own company creating interior accent pieces and eventually was lead into interior decorating. Once her child hit middle school, she obtained a Series Seven license (stockbroker) and became responsible for the set-up of a newly constructed securities office in a major financial center and was the branch manager's right hand.
After her family moved to Hilo in the early 1980's, she went on board with a local office of a Securities firm. Next she took a step into the radio industry where she sold advertising, wrote and produced radio spots and had a Saturday Morning radio show. In 1989 she won The National Exchange Clubs Project of the Year Award for for her Prevention of Child Abuse Campaign.
With a broad background in the entertainment field, it was a natural step into her position with Prudential Orchid Isle Properties as Director of Marketing. Syleste was actively involved with the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors, she was awarded Realtor-Associate of the Year in 1995 for her community participation and for regenerating the dwindling interest in the boards membership meetings. Her ideas created record breaking attendance among board members. The most rewarding aspect was raising funds for the homeless and needy and donated through Care-a-van and Habitat for Humanity. In 1997, she won Prudential's nation-wide "Ad Focus" award for the best marketing idea and best use of marketing dollars.
In 2002, Syleste co-chaired a fundraiser for the Pacific Tsunami Museum in Hilo, rasing over $36,000 for the museum. She served on the Board of Directors for Destination Hilo 2005 & 2006 and chaired the Marketing Committee 2006/2007. She conceived a new look for their logo and developed the concept and was the coordinator for a self guided "Historic Site Map" of Hilo. In addition she served on the Website Committe for the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce.
An artisan of many mediums, she likens marketing to that of creating a quilt, "there are a number of small steps that comprise the final product". Syleste says she is happiest when creating, be it an ad campaign, piece of jewelry or entertaining friends at home, she remarked "when the creative energy is flowing through me I am completely fulfilled". |
